Overview

A thatched hut becomes a market square becomes a skyline. Forge of Empires, InnoGames' long-running strategy title, is a city-builder that walks you through the whole arc of human history, one era at a time. You start in the Stone Age with a handful of primitive structures and a thin economy, then research your way forward through bronze, iron, and beyond, unlocking new buildings, technologies, and units with each age you cross. The loop is familiar to anyone who has played the genre: construct, produce, upgrade, expand. What sets it apart is the breadth — strategic city planning, PvP battles, a guild system, and regular events all share the same screen. It is a deeper, more committed kind of strategy game than a five-minute arcade title, and it expects you to think in build orders and long horizons rather than quick reflexes.

How to Play

The game is largely mouse-driven. Click to interact with buildings — to construct, collect production, upgrade, or queue research — and tap on touch devices. Mouse and keyboard controls are both supported for navigating the menus and the city map. You place and upgrade structures to generate resources, spend those resources on technology research to advance through the ages, and engage with combat and events through the on-screen buttons. There is no platformer movement or aim-and-fire here; the inputs are about selecting, placing, and managing. Because the systems layer on top of each other, the early tutorial walks you through each interaction before turning you loose on the city.

Tips & Strategy

Pick a few core productions and lean into them rather than spreading your city thin. Resources are the bottleneck in every era, so identify which buildings generate what you need for the next research node and prioritize upgrades there. Do not rush blindly through the ages — each era has its own tech tree, and skipping content leaves your military and economy under-leveled for the PvP battles and events that follow. Join a guild early, because guild play opens up benefits that solo players simply do not get. When it comes to combat, learn the unit matchups instead of auto-resolving everything; understanding terrain and counters will save you units over time. Log in on event days, since the limited-time events are where the meaningful rewards tend to live.
