ZType
Type words to destroy incoming enemy ships in this fast-paced typing game.
Overview
Typing becomes a weapon the moment an enemy ship drifts onto screen with a word glued to its hull. ZType is an arcade typing blaster where each letter you type in sequence chips away at the targeted ship, and finishing the word destroys it. There is no aiming and no movement to manage; the only input is the keyboard, and your typing speed, accuracy, and word choice directly determine how long you survive.
Enemies approach in waves, each one carrying a word of varying length, and the difficulty scales as longer words and faster ships enter the mix. The clever part is how the game repurposes a productivity skill into a survival mechanic: a fluent typist clears the screen without thinking, while a hesitant one watches ships creep closer with every missed keystroke. Picking the right target matters too, because the ship closest to your line is not always the one whose word you have already started, and switching targets mid-word resets your progress.
How to Play
Type the word attached to each enemy ship, letter by letter, in sequence, and the ship is destroyed when the word is complete. There are no movement or aiming controls; the game auto-targets the ship whose word you are typing, so the entire input is the keyboard. If you start typing a different word, the target switches to that ship, which means mid-word switches cost you progress on the original target. Prioritize the closest, most dangerous ships by typing their words first, since the game does not pause while you decide. The difficulty comes from word length, typing speed, and the rate at which new ships appear, all of which ramp up as you survive.
Tips & Strategy
Type accurately rather than quickly, because every wrong keystroke is wasted time against a ship that is still closing in, and a fast typist with sloppy accuracy will lose to a slower typist who hits every key. Scan the screen before you start a word and pick the nearest threat rather than the easiest word, since a short word on a distant ship is less urgent than a long word on one close to your line.
Commit to a word once you start it; switching targets mid-word throws away the letters you already typed and leaves two ships alive instead of one. If a long word is too risky to finish, look for a shorter word on a closer ship and clear it first to buy time. Treat each session as typing practice as much as a game, because the survival mechanic is a direct mirror of your typing fluency and improves with deliberate, accurate repetition.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be a fast typist to enjoy ZType?
Not especially. The game paces itself to your typing and shorter words appear first, so you naturally get quicker the more you play.
How does ZType decide which enemy to shoot?
You type the letters of the nearest incoming word in order. Finishing a word destroys that enemy, and the next closest word becomes your target.
What happens if an enemy reaches me?
It costs you a life. Focus on the closest threats first rather than the longest words to keep the screen clear.
