Breakout

Bounce the ball to smash all the bricks! Collect power-ups and survive 5 exciting levels.

Overview

A paddle, a ball, and a wall of color-coded bricks is the entire premise, and the Breakout lineage has stayed relevant for decades precisely because that loop is so tight. Each brick's color signals its durability, so the layout is readable at a glance: some fall to a single hit, others absorb several before they crack, and learning which is which lets you plan a clear path instead of blindly bouncing.

The game spreads across five levels with distinct layouts, and each one introduces a power-up system that can drop multi-ball mode and other modifiers onto the paddle. Catching the right power-up at the right moment is what turns a slow grind into a cascade, and the score multiplier rewards players who keep the ball alive long enough to chain effects together. It is a precision game dressed up as a casual one, where the difference between a good run and a great run is paddle placement and timing.

How to Play

Move the paddle with the Left and Right arrow keys or with the mouse, and press Space, click, or tap to launch the ball at the start of each life. On touch devices, drag to move the paddle and tap to launch. The angle the ball comes off the paddle depends on where it hits, so the paddle is not just a backboard but a steering wheel; the edges send the ball at sharper angles, and the center returns it nearly straight up. Catch falling power-ups by positioning the paddle under them, and keep the ball in play by anticipating its next bounce rather than chasing it after the fact.

Tips & Strategy

Aim the ball by where it lands on the paddle, since hitting the paddle's edge sends it across the screen at an angle and lets you reach bricks the ball would not otherwise touch. Read the brick colors first and pick a target: tougher bricks soak up hits and stall your progress, so clear the durable ones early while the field is still crowded enough to keep the ball bouncing productively.

Grab multi-ball the instant it appears, because two or three balls in play effectively multiply your clearing speed and your score multiplier at once. Avoid wasting power-ups by losing the ball immediately after catching one; if a risky catch would expose your paddle, let the power-up go and survive instead. Move the paddle to the ball's predicted landing spot early rather than tracking it in real time, since the launch angle on contact determines where the ball goes next more than anything else in the game.
